As a long time sufferer of depression and anxiety, our CB Society member Danielle knows a thing or two about how important it is to look after your mental health.
After being diagnosed with a mental health condition a few years ago, Danielle has suffered periods of deep depression which has massively impacted her self care.
She tells us: “When I’m suffering from depression it makes it very difficult for me to take care of myself - I didn’t want to brush my hair, let alone start a skincare routine.”
It’s safe to say that we’re all probably feeling a little uncertain about the future at the moment, but one thing’s for sure, looking after yourself - whether that be physically or mentally - is so incredibly important.
Whether that’s getting your daily exercise, meditating or perfecting your 10-step skincare routine, there’s never been a more important time to do the things that make you feel...well, most like you.
That’s why we sent Danielle, 33, an Alpha-Stim Aid Device to try and test. Using cranial electrotherapy stimulation, the device is a pain-free, natural solution to treating anxiety, insomnia and depression and allows you to treat your symptoms from the comfort of your own home.
It usually takes between six and twelve weeks to see significant results but Danielle has experienced positive effects from the device after just a few weeks of use. Her son, 13, who also suffers from anxiety has also been using it.
Danielle explains: “I have bipolar disorder and anxiety and my son has depression, anxiety and trouble sleeping. We are currently awaiting help from the children’s mental health team for my son and thought we would give this device a try, after reading the research for children using this device.”
The device has previously been trailed by the NHS and studies show that it can relax people who have suffered from anxiety for years.
She explains: “For myself, I use the device in the mornings and I’ve noticed that my anxiety is already slightly lessened and I’m not waking up as much in the evening.
My teenage son has been using the device in the evening before bedtime. I’ve noticed that he is having less meltdowns (screaming, crying) and he says that he feels calmer than he was before using the device.
He’s also noted that his sleep has dramatically improved. He said he had one of the best nights' sleep he's had in months a few days back. Which is so promising! We will continue to use the device daily and will report back.”
We’ll be checking in with Danielle at the six week mark to see how she's getting on.
